Christopher Roberts’ newest venture is built on his years
of experience in the classical music industry. His firm, Robisong Consultants,
advises new and established classical artists on strategies for promoting
themselves and nurturing their creativity.
Prior to founding his own company, Christopher Roberts worked for many years
with Universal Music Group as President of the International Classics and Jazz
division. The division oversees the world’s longest-standing recording company,
Deutsche Grammophon, a Germany-based label founded in 1898. Christopher Roberts
also managed the growth and creativity of the most comprehensive opera catalog
in the world, produced under Universal Music Group’s Decca imprint.
Through forward thinking, Christopher Roberts encouraged Universal Music Group
to embrace digital technology and the massive revenue and sales shifts
occurring in the industry over the past two decades. During his time with the
firm, Mr. Roberts successfully positioned jazz label Verve into a top player in
the 1990s. Christopher Roberts’ efforts with Deutsche Grammophon allowed it to
regain prominence in the 2000s, largely due to the production of several
Broadway albums for shows such as Wicked and Spamalot. He was directly
responsible for the unparalleled success of Andrea Bocelli, a massively
successful crossover artist and the best-selling solo classical musician of all
time. Christopher Roberts built the Decca and Deutsche Grammaphon labels
through the promotion of artists including Renée Fleming, Hillary Hahn, and
Anna Netrebko. Christopher Roberts’ progressive thinking resulted in Universal
Music Group offering direct-to-consumer digital music through iClassics and DG
Web Shop.
